Is a Spanish Translation a “First Edition?”

I was asked the following question and wanted some SPANnet feedback. Please let me know what you think!

“We are a company that prints educational books for the consumer credit counseling industry. We are printing a Spanish translation of a book that has previously been printed and reprinted in English 11 times. The Spanish version of the book has its own copyright and ISBN number; therefore, can I, on the copyright page, say that this is the first printing of the Spanish book? Or, because it’s a translation of an English book, do I have to list all the previous printings in English as well as this one in Spanish?”

We have typeset copyright pages that said, "First Spanish Edition, (date)."

My opinion, if it's the first time being printed in Spanish it's the first edition.

If possible I would like to find out more from this person, or anyone else, about who is doing the translation & how it is being translated into Spanish, and how they will distribute to the Spanish readers/market.
