Hi Carolyn. I would suggest that you not use DRM, as that doesn't really stop the determined pirates but is an inconvenience for honest people who want to make a second copy for another reader, etc. Retailers like Amazon or Apple will add their own DRM anyway.

In terms of promotion, I would attempt to reach out to a like-minded nonprofit or educational association that might be interested in partnering, perhaps promoting the book on their website, offering it as a premium for a donation, cohosting events, etc. Also try getting articles published in papers or blogs that reach the people you want to reach.

Promotion is hard. It's all about persistence and follow-up. Good luck!

I don't know about libraries, but for sure it wouldn't be feasible to sell a pamphlet in retail environments (even online ones), for the reasons you describe.

You might consider gathering all your pamphlets into one book, with each one being a chapter, when they are all written. In the meantime, you can sell them directly, perhaps as PDFs that can be downloaded from your website to eliminate the cost of printing.

Yes, the document should be set up to the size you want the book.

54 pages will more than likely be saddle stitched, but this can vary with the printer. Even if it is perfect bound, the spine would be too small to contain any type.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Then SPAN is exactly the right place to learn. There's so much bad advice available online now. So-called "experts" teaching people how to produce horrible books and print them in ways that suck away almost all of their profits. Ask me or anyone else here all the questions you want. If we don't know the answer, we can probably direct you to someone who does.
