I recently read, and recommend reading, the article 10 Ways to Combat Online Piracy by Keith Kupferschmid from the November/December 2012 issue of Book Business. As the title suggests, it gives a great overview of the options and strategies available to someone who finds their…

Effective December 31, 2012, I will be resigning from my position as the Executive Director of SPAN due to health concerns. Brian Jud, of Premium Book Company, will be stepping into the responsibilities and leadership as SPAN's Executive Director, effective January 1st, 2013.

Thanks so much for your kind email. I've just put information about the Self-Publishing Book Expo in a Blog Post. It's such a great opportunity for writers. Hope it catches some attention.
Thanks again.
Bradly,
I have reviewed the PIP Criteria and look forward to participating and learning greatly by the professionals. Hopefully, someday I will become certified and be recognized by the industry as a reputible publiser. This is my life now that God has blessed me with and I anticipate a long lasting relationship within the industry. PAM
Hi Bradley:
You asked how we like owning a print shop...HARD WORK! But worth the effort. The recession hit us pretty hard in Reno, NV (We're #1 in foreclosures). Many of our customers were small businesses. But, I suppose you could say, discipline was forced upon us early in the game and we began the transition to book printing earlier than we had originally planned.
To answer your second question: We would have been required to follow franchise guidelines if we were not independent and would not be able to offer the services we do in the manner we do now.
That said, there is a lot to be said for support from franchises also. When paper prices dramatically changed in 2007-2008, we had to "go it alone" to determine our new price structure and margin of profit. My early career in accounting and financial planning helped, but there was still a learning curve.
I love the Home Page! What a great way to celebrate a successful 2010. Good work, Bradley (over the entire year)! Thank you!
I'm still considering posting a link later. There's a lot going on right now, health-wise, so I'm not thinking much about the book at this time. I do appreciate your getting back to me, though, and adding the link to the rules set up by SPAnnet.
Sincerely,
Peggy
I am a little confused about why my comment was deleted, I certainly respect your opinion.I would never knowingly print something that was either offensive or unkind. Just curious, and again please except my apology for what ever I did.
Most Sincerely
Jo
