Can anyone recommend a distributor for a new author/publisher.  I have spent a lot of time and money on revisions and marketing.  I am talking with Lightning Source and hope they are willing to take me and right now I am using Createspace.  I have heard that expanded distribution through Createspace is a very bad idea.

Also I was wondering what is a good text size/font for a 6 x 9 in young adult novel.  Also, does anyone know how to change the spacing in word 2007.  So far, I can only figure out how to make it either 1.15 or 1.5 spacing.  I'd like to get the spacing to 1.3 or 1.4.  What exaclty should the top and bottom margins be?  I've had two galleys printed so far and it looks better, but I want it to be perfect.

I appreciate any help offered. Thanks!

Andrea,

Very wise of you to have focused on content quality and marketing first.  I suggest you contact PublishNext for help or advice on distribution. www.publishnext.com.  They can also help you with your second question regarding interior layout and design.  Contact: randy.kuckuck@publishnext.com

Andrea,

Here is a recent post about distribution which may help answer some of your questions: http://www.spannet.org/group/distribution/forum/topics/distribution-2

If you have any questions about Bookmasters, a SPAN Sponsor and one of the distribution options that you should consider, message Amanda Dowdy as she has worked for them for a while (and still does I believe)  and knows quite a bit about their operation.

And beyond that, with regard to your typsetting question...I'm not the best person to answer it, as it is not my area of expertise. But I wanted to share my thoughts with you anyway, because it may give you another avenue of exploration with regards to finding an answer.

While I can't help you actually solve the problem I did want to mention that Microsoft Word is not really designed to be a tool for finalizing and typesetting manuscripts.

If you want it to be perfect I recommend working with a professional designer (like Phil, who is with Color House,  suggested: PublishNext, or even *another*of our sponsors: About-Books.com, or 1106design.com)  who can use and really knows Quark or Adobe InDesign. I know that you may be on a budget, but if you're interested in hearing some more recommendations in that regard, I have some additional names of people, including some with whom I have no financial affiliation ;)  that I can share.

And in that regard, I'm not interested in recommending a Sponsor or Advertiser to one of my members unless I know they do quality work. So please know that while most of the above companies mentioned do support SPAN financially, I am happy to recommend them to you because I know that they are good companies who provide quality service.
